An exquisite triad of mid-20th-century Indian craftsmanship, this set of three nesting bajot (low tables) marries the rustic warmth of solid teak with the opulent texture of hand-tooled metalwork. Originating from the Rajasthan or Gujarat regions, these tables—historically used as ceremonial chowki platforms for dining or puja—have been reimagined here as a rare, stackable collection perfect for dynamic interior layering.
Constructed from dense, high-status teak wood, each square table is anchored by a delicate, repoussé brass rosette at its center. The wood is framed by a hand-hammered brass perimeter featuring scalloped edges and incised foliate scrollwork, while a contrasting dark metal trim—likely oxidized copper or iron—borders the outer edges to add graphic definition to the gold tones. The apron continues this metallic narrative with textured sheeting secured by decorative tacking.
The platforms rise on stout, lathe-turned wooden baluster legs that display the pegged mortise joinery and tool marks characteristic of artisan construction rather than factory production. Visually, the set exhibits the desirable, authentic wear consistent with its mid-20th-century origins. The brass has softened into a warm, mellow glow with natural oxidation in the crevices, while the wood surfaces bear the historic character of use, confirming its lineage as a true vintage artifact.
