“Resurrection” by Elray

55”L x 17”W x 4”D

Resurrection (Look 14) reclaimed cedar, steel, chain, aerosol & single stage urethane pigmentation and hindsight.

Behold the magnificent craftsmanship of “Resurrection” by Elray. An exquisite creation of cedar wood and steel, crafted with 20 years of design, furniture making, and welding experience.

Native Austinite, Elray began making art in the early aughts showing in both the inaugural group show at Austin’s City Hall and opening his then East side warehouse to the very first East Austin Studio Tour.

He has been awarded multiple cultural contracts over the years with the City of Austin. His welded and mixed media sculpture has been placed in both museums and private collections.

He has been on a creative hiatus for for some time during which he obtained a degree in Interior Design and subsequently began his design + build practice which focuses on custom furnishings.

Drawing on lessons learned from personal adventures, fashion, popular culture, and the resilient and beautiful nature of women he has known and admired, his work is inevitably and profoundly personal. Yet Elray’s work simultaneously attempts to present a universal subject matter through ubiquitous and lasting materials. Steel, concrete, timber and heartache are mined to produce stories that are reminiscent, humorous, and intentionally unforgivingly permanent.

This is his first work for public display in nearly two decades .
