Crafted by South Austin-based artist, fine furniture maker, and antique restoration specialist Robert Wymer, this multi-functional open shelving unit in rift-sawn white oak beautifully balances structural transparency with adaptable, modern utility. A University of Texas at Austin BFA graduate and third-generation creative, Wymer brings a deep understanding of historic craftsmanship and pattern language to this functional sculpture, which measures 37 inches high, 40 inches wide, and 13 and a quarter inches deep. The piece fluidly transitions between roles, serving with equal elegance as a dedicated coffee station, an intimate cocktail bar, or an elevated platform for curated object display. Wymer subverts the traditional weight of a console through an architectural play of planes, utilizing precision-cut slats on the lower shelves that allow light to filter through while offering a breathable, stable surface for glassware or bottles. This organic warmth is sharply punctuated by inset panels of rich, matte teal at the periphery, creating a striking geometric contrast. With exposed joinery, extended tenons, and interlocking horizontals that anchor the framework with a subtle, graphic rhythm, this work brings a sophisticated, intentional artistry to daily rituals.
