NUMBER DIVINATION BOX - THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS
The effect of the 'Number Divination Box' is simple: With the magician’s back turned, the spectator arranges the numbered discs inside the box in any order she desires.
Once the lid is closed, the magician passes his hand over the box and divines the order. The method is also simple: Each of the discs has a piece of lodestone (naturally occurring magnet) at different points in them. The 1 is at the top (north); the 2 is at the right (east), and so on around the four points of a compass. Concealed in the magician’s hand is a tiny compass. As the performer passes his hand over the lid of the box, the compass reacts accordingly, telling the magician where the magnet is and therefore which number is on the disc.
