Palissy ware modeled plate with a large snake in combat or kiss with a large lizard. The habitat includes a frog, a moth, and a snail. Stamped Jose Alves Cunha Caldas Da Rainha. Excellent condition. Colors true to artist's intent. No chips. Has holes underneath for hanging.
José Alves Cunha was a Portuguese ceramist who founded a ceramics factory in 1862. His pieces were shown at the Paris International Exhibition (1867), at the Philadelphia International Exhibition (1876) and at the Paris International Exhibition (1900). In the latter having received an Honorable Mention.
