The Gilded Pivot: A Reimagined Victorian Parlor Chair

Pastel and Period: A Reimagined Victorian Classic. History meets high design in this hand-carved Victorian parlor chair from approximately 1870, which has undergone a complete metamorphosis to bridge the gap between nineteenth-century artistry and twenty-first-century comfort. We have meticulously preserved the soulful bones of the original frame, including the rare original wood casters, while elevating the piece for the modern home. The juxtaposition of the deep, intricate wood against the soft, matte glow of blush pink chenille creates a striking visual dialogue. Featuring brand-new internal suspension, premium springs, and a plush cushion finished with elegant double-welting, this chair offers the luxury of Victorian craftsmanship without the period stiffness. You may notice the original wood wheels are located only on the front legs, a deliberate design choice for formal entertaining that allowed a host to easily pivot the chair toward a guest or tea table without lifting the solid hardwood frame. While various versions of wheels existed for centuries, the first patented furniture mover was invented by David Fisher in 1876. His invention revolutionized interior design, allowing a single person to rearrange the heavy mahogany and walnut suites that previously required a full staff to move.
