This substantial ceramic vessel represents a stunning dialogue between Mid-Century Modernist geometry and biomorphic expression. Balancing a dramatic, elongated 24-inch hull atop a singular, heavily textured monolithic plinth, the piece effortlessly bridges the gap between rigid architectural design and the fluid, untamed energy of the natural world.
Exhibiting the soulful asymmetry of an entirely handmade work, the vessel features a deeply undulating, scalloped rim that evokes both the sharp, sculptural angles of mid-century design and the rhythmic motion of crashing waves. This coastal avant-garde energy is grounded by a multi-tonal seafoam and teal glaze. The glaze pools with magnificent depth along the ridges, mimicking the shifting gradients of shallow ocean waters.
Adding to its rich, tactile narrative is a series of hand-applied, raised rosettes. Reminiscent of weathered barnacles or oxidized architectural studs, these details provide a rustic counterpoint to the vessel’s smoother surfaces. By juxtaposing the sweeping, marine-inspired curves of the upper basin with the stark, heavily striated geometric block base, the artist captures a perfect duality: it is simultaneously a relic of the sea and a triumph of brutalist form.
Preserved in pristine condition, this commanding work serves as an exceptional statement piece—equally at home on a minimalist modernist console or as a sculptural focal point in a high-design architectural space.
